Professional practice: the new PRC construction law

Abstract
For many of the HKIA members, a substantial part of their practice involves projects in Mainland China. A general knowledge, if not details, of the construction law governing construction practice in the Mainland China is essential. The "Construction Law of the PRC" is the first national law ever governing construction activities in China. The new law will affect construction control, professional licensing, tendering, construction contract arrangement and site supervision requirements. This article introduces the outline and general scope of the new legislation. It draws readers' attention to the key areas concerned and provides a guide for those who want to explore in further details.
