Abstract
The pace of change in today's technological office environment means that often, flexibility is the key to successful business practice. This is why more and more companies are finding it necessary to add facility management to the traditional range of departments. Facility management is the practice of co-ordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organisation; it integrates principles of business administration, architecture and the behavioural and engineering sciences.
The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) was founded in 1980 and is a non-profit, incorporated association dedicated to developing and maintaining high standards within the profession and furthering the understanding and value of facility management to the public.
Last November, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, IFMA held its third conference on Facility Management. Design firms who attended the conference included Gensler International, Daza International, Ko & Company Consultants Ltd, Matthew Cheng Associates, PAE International, Planex Hong Kong Ltd and Richards Basmajian. The furniture manufacturer, Steelcase sponsored the event along with support from the Haworth Group. The major furniture manufacturer are keeping up to date with the trends of the industry through IFMA and are helping to satisfy the client's ever changing needs.
Lindsay Colwill, a founding director of IFMA Hong Kong and Managing Director of KO & Company Consultants Ltd that specialises in strategic office planning, attended the conference and contributed this report to hinge.
