Abstract
At the end of the British occupation in 1948, Burma was the richest country in Asia; in the decades since, it has slowly declined to become one of the poorest. However, the last few years have seen the country re-open to foreign investment. Huw Morgan Griffiths visited Rangoon recently to see that the infrastructural work desired by the government would do more than just bring it into the 1990s.
