Abstract
The best kind of building maintenance is proper building management and high technology innovations have made possible the most advanced such programmes. A case in point is the state-of-the-art Building Management System (BMS) recently installed in the Royal Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza, in Singapore. With sophisticated refinements such as one which allows a duty engineer to be alerted by a telephone call from a computer "voice" in the event of a systems problem, even if he is off site, it can be seen that BMS programmes have been refined to hitherto unachievable levels. And the result of such finely focussed and detailed building management maintenance programmes, will surely be optimum maintenance conditions, over extended periods of time, for the buildings of the future.
