Abstract
They're usually low-budget, riddled with regulations and handcuffered by cookie-cutter programmes. In Hong Kong, they have been accused of looking like inbred siblings, one after another 'featuring' the same banal design elements, arranged in the same yawn-inducing dispositions and coated in the same mind-numbing colours. Mention school design and high design in the same sentence and people think you're having them on. Little wonder: most of them are dull enough to send an insomniac to slumberville. Yet these schools are far from monastic in aesthetic. One of the surprises in this area is the variation and innovation taking place, albeit quietly, in the recent design of schools. Take a look.
