Abstract
The Peak competition represented a genuine attempt to achieve a new architectural dialogue for one of the most spectacular sites in the world. The competition was totally international in scope as well as intention and some 539 entries were received from competitors in a far flung professional network. The jury was chaired by John Andrews and included promoter Alfred Siu. Leading Australian architectural writer Haig Beck's sensitive critical appraisal provides memorable insights on a design brief which was a serious and eminently buildable effort by the office of DCM-Yuncken Freeman Hong Kong, the Hong Kong practice of the Australian based international firm of Denton Corker Marshall.
