Abstract
Centuries ago, 'La Porte du Soleil Levan' (The Gate of the Rising Sun) proudly marked the entrance to the walled town of Clermont-Ferrand in France. In the late 1980's the strategic position on the east-west axis of the city between this historic old quarter and the thriving contemporary town, was occupied by the long deserted, crumbling remains of a 17th century convent.
