Abstract
Factory design in Hong Kong has not enjoyed a priority rating, even during these booming last two decades. Nevertheless, that priority is being re-examined as owners' standards grow more sophisticated, while those of the workforce are increasingly taken into consideration by modern management. Still, the inspiration, initiative and funding are rarely made available. One striking current exception has been the just-completed Kay's Glass factory in the Yuen Long Industrial Estate. The Hong Kong-based architects, M. Moser Associates Limited, have chosen (working very much attuned to the client's brief) to approach their creative task in a stylish and vivacious mode which, in addition to breaking new ground in industrial architecture, also takes into account the need for an appropriately representative corporate headquarters.
