Abstract
Armed with degrees in fine art from a Massachusetts college and the New York Academy of Art, New York painter Nicholas Gilman has cashed in on the potential of painted screens. He specializes in historic-style screens that may be painted to suit the overall atmosphere of design concept of a room. Clients or interior designers look at paintings by the Old Masters - Velazquez, Vermeer, Sheeler - to select the style favoured for a particular project. Gilman then goes on to create his very own still-life or landscape in the chosen style. This allows him a certain amount of artistic license while elevating his work from the drudgery of more copying.
