Abstract
Major developments, mainly Government and infrastructure, are to be scrutinized by a "watchdog" group of top professionals, the Study Group for Infrastructure Development (SGID), in the interest of community involvement and discussion and as a matter of assistance to Government.
Originated by Dr Wang Liang Huew, a Hong Kong University senior lecturer in geography and geology, the group will employ the voluntarily-given expertise of planners, economists, engineers and environmentalists in examining and making recommendations about the various projects. Dr Wang, who is also chairman of the Chartered Institute of Transport, Hong Kong Section, and vice-president of the Pacific Rim Council on Urban Development, explains his organisation's motives in the following.
