Abstract
An international standard governing quality assurance, ISO 9000 was published in 1987 as a series of five standards. Since then, it has been widely adopted as an determination of quality for the products and services supplied by manufacturers.
More recently, the Industry Department introduced ISO 9000 to Hong Kong, with local manufacturers and service companies being encouraged to apply for registration. In construction, the Housing Authority has said that, as of March 1993, tenderers for its projects will have to be licensed under the new standard.
Ron Mortiboys, a UK expert, was commissioned by the Housing Department and Hong Kong Construction Association to survey the means and methods by which local firms catering to the construction industry could improve their product quality and how ISO 9000 could be introduced to their managements.
ISO9000是現今國際認可的品質保証標準，可劃分為五個部份。自八七年公布以來，這項標準已獲國際廣泛接納為測定製造商所供應產品或服務質素的基礎。
在本港，工業署最近已引進ISO9000，並鼓勵製造商及服務行業申請註?。關於建築界，房屋委員會已表明由九三年三月起，所有競投房委會合約的承建商，均必須領有ISO 9000的牌照。
房屋署和香港建造商會，去年委託英國品質管理專家莫天沛，研究如何協助本地建築公司改善質素及如何把 ISO 9000 ，引進建築行業，報告於九一年四月呈交。建築承造雜誌為了使 建築業人士更了解 ISO 9000 的歷史及要求，趁莫天沛來港處理業務，訪問了這位曾參與創造 ISO 9000 的專家。
