Abstract
Global landmark architectural projects such as the Sydney Opera House, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, The HongkongBank headquarters or Japan's Kansai airport might never have been built, were it not for the close collaboration and exchange of ideas between the respective architects, and engineers of Ove Arup & Partners (OAP). Engineers are continually improving on the performance of materials and inventing new methods to realise architects' (often) wild ideas. However, even in today's hi-tech cyberculture the vestiges of romanticism linger, and it is, the creative (architectural) rather than inventive (engineering) side of the partnership that tends to be recognised. In this, the anniversary of OAP's fiftieth year of existence and twentieth in Hong Kong, hinge hopes to help redress the balance.
