Abstract
As each year draws to a close, the world remembers those people who made their mark, whether it's the worst dressed celebrity or the personality, politician, sports person, or box-office blockbuster of the year. The turn of the century has elevated this 'best of' fever to skyscraper proportions. And with that, the millennium has given architecture in Hong Kong, the chance to join the realm of popular culture alongside moviestars, celebrities, musicians, etc. '10 Best: Architecture in Hong Kong' was co-organised by the HKIA, RTHK and the Hong Kong Economic Times, and encompassed the dual election by professional architects and the public, for the best works of architecture. So, when architecture is hyped in the same way cantopop is, do we need to get concerned?
