Abstract
With a history shaped by continuous development and redevelopment, envisioning the future on blueprints had become a familiar practice in Hong Kong. Whilst the vision statements put forward by government planners tend to sound positive and forward-looking, sometimes they can clash with reality. In the case of Yung Shue Wan, on Lamma Island, the government's intention to develop the waterfront by reclaiming a sizeable chunk of the existing harbour has led to widespread public outcry, which in turn has prompted the local community to generate an alternative vision for the village's future.
