Abstract
Britons Tom Dixon, hailed as the self-taught designer's designer, and Patrice Bulter, the architect-turned-lighting designer, were among a group of people who visited Hong Kong in January as part of the Contrasts Gallery delegation. Publicity brochures claim Tom Dixon' s work "stems from a passion for materials and manufacturing processes. Welds and rivets are proudly displayed and industrial finishes are used in all their glory. Inspiration comes from engineering, geometry and architecture." Patrice Bulter's latest creations are said to be "as decadent as Faberge" but his earlier work may be termed decadent-utility. Whichever piece you choose, it is always functional; not one of Faberge's aims.
