Abstract
On 15th November, the "tusks" of Hong Kong's most famous "white elephant" - the two 123-metre high chimneys of the Lok On Pai desalination plant - were reduced to rubble in slightly under six seconds, instead of the estimated four months traditional demolition methods would have taken. It was a potent reminder of the power of scientifically-handled explosives, as main contractor Cheung Kee Fung Cheung Construction senior engineer Roger Fan explains.
九二年十一月十五日，香港最著名的’白象‘(昂貴而實用价值不高之物)--樂安排海水化淡廠，其兩支’象牙‘--一對高一百二十三米的煙囪--在六秒鐘之內被炸成瓦礫，虎份顯現先進爆破拆卸方法的威力。
在七十年代耗資四億七千六百萬元建造的樂安排海水化淡廠，原用於解決本港當年的水荒，但 鑑於中國不斷增加供應東江水，化淡廠只曾在七五到七八年及八一到八二年投產，九零年 正式關閉。
