Abstract
This paper details the critical elements of partnering. Although the information presented within this paper was formulated as part of a doctoral research project it has been used by practitioners within the British construction industry to assess the possible implementation of partnering into their business operations. The paper proposes that partnering has 10 critical elements. These are: goals and objectives; turst; problem resolution; commitment; continuous evaluation; group working / teams; equity; shared risk; win-win philosophy and collaboration / co-operation. In order to identify these elements a basic identification test was undertaken. In total twenty partnering publications were analysed based the following criteria: year of publication; location of source; and primary content of publications. The paper also identifies the different types of partnering and proven results of its implementation.
