Abstract
The distinction between designing tall buildings for residential use and for other uses is the many additional factors necessary for 24-hour-a-day residential use versus the much more limited occupancy of non-residential structures. There is also the social aspect of living in high-rise buildings.
Via the following address to the Fourth International Conference on Tall Buildings, Housing Authority Deputy Director of Housing (Construction) Derek Messling indicated that he was "pleased to place into the arena the Hong Kong experience in constructing high-rise, high-density, public sector living environments."
