Abstract
Based in London, Conran & Partners sets out to challenge the traditional notion of design practice through the multi-displinary services it offers. Not only that, but under the chairmanship of Sir Terence Conran, the firm has gained a substantial reputation in all fields, whether architecture, interiors, graphics and product / furniture design. The result is far reaching - from planning a cultural quarter in Edinburgh to designing a light fitting for a dining room in Tokyo. The company is also the sole designer of all the renowned Conran restaurants and shops. The team of graphic and product designers was further strengthened when, just over a year ago, Sebastian Conran joined as director for graphic and product design following the agglomeration with Sebastian Conran Associates. Conran & Partners emphatically believes in "the traditions of Modernism told through various narratives, and in the vibrance and life with the built environment". Despite such diverse commissions, Conran & Partners has managed to maintain consistency, not through adherence to a single aesthetic solution but via a commitment to contemporary ideology; an approach which seeks to " create a dialogue between the theoretical and the practical". In short, their work is an attempt to resolve abstract and intangible ideas by carefully considering the actual process of how things are made.
