Abstract
The surge in developing countries' growth rates over the next decade will be led by the nations of south-east Asia, where rates of 7.5% are currently the norm. The region now accounts for a quarter of output in the developing world, and competition for building contracts there is fierce, with western companies having to compete with local and Japanese concerns.
