Abstract
In 1995 Ben van Berkel was commissioned to design a new museum for archaeology and modern art in Nijimegen, based on his winning design for a competition organised in 1995 by Nijimegen city council and Stichting Het Valkhof. An important aspect of the design is the museum's unique location. One side faces a square which connects directly with the city centre, while the other sides are surrounded by the Kelfkensbos park with its ruins and views over the Waal river. 1.
