Abstract
The construction industry is often portrayed as the enemy of the environment. Although that reputation may have been justified in the past, there is increasing evidence that the industry is cleaning up its act. Contractors working on the KCRC East Rail extension projects are contractually obliged to perform a number of measures to minimise their impact upon neighbouring residents and bysinesses, and on the wider environment as a whole. Dave Parkin, Technical Services Manager at NESCO-China State-Hip Hing Joint Venture demonstrates that, far from resenting these measures, contractors are seeking to improve on them.
