Abstract
The contracts on the Hong Kong Island MTR's line made demands on the contractors and engineers employed on them. Crowded work sites, buildings immediately adjacent to the piling works, high water tables, etc. made advanced techniques essential. In the foregoing pieces we talked of large diameter bored piling and diaphragm walling. On the Sheung Wan East MTR project (Contract MTRC 401) these two techniques were both involved. The Consulting Engineer was Maunsell Consultants Asia and the Main Contractor was Nishimatsu Construction Company.
