Abstract
Different buildings - office, residential, retail, factory - have different requirements in terms of materials and construction methods. One issue which unites them, however, is fire resistance. Fire resistance has to be considered at every stage of a building's development and must take precedence over aesthetics, which presents designers with many areas of compromise. Their dilemma need not be so great, however, if the medium being worked with is glass.
