Abstract
London based architectural firm AFSO is dissected by the initials of its two young founding partners, Andre Fu and Stephane Orsolini. Fu was born in Hong Kong and studied architecture at University of Cambridge, while Orsolini trained at the Architectural Association. They met whilst colleagues in John Pawson's office before teaming up to establish AFSO Designs in 1999.
For now, AFSO's work largely comprises bar and restaurant interiors, high-profile stuff that has given them heaps of publicity worldwide. Their multi-cultural backgrounds and working experience with the master of minimalism explains AFSO's meticulous approach to proportion and geometry. Focusing also on the play of texture and light, their intent is to establish a mediation between minimalism and playfulness in architecture. However, this is by no means a goal for every single project but an attitude the duo try to adhere to for the sake of bringing a consistent language to their portfolio.
