Abstract
When the client and the design team of a proposed new restaurant sat down to thrash out concepts at their first meeting in the autumn of last year, the brief was remarkably open to interpretation: "We don't want anything that looks 'hotel-ish'" said the client with some emphasis. The rest is up to you." What does or does not constitute "hotel-ish" is, of course, a very broad mandate. In this instance the designers, Hugh Zimmern, for Leigh & Orange Ltd, in association with John Court (of Linbeck & Rausch (HK) Lighting Consultants) and Paula Dindo, paint specialist, took it to mean a quixotic and highly individual mix of design elements which, combined, have created one of the prettiest restaurants in Hong Kong.
