Abstract
Pilgrims and sightseers alike are already being attracted to Lantau Island's 34-m high statue of Buddha (Gautama Siddhartha, founder of Buddhism, who died about 480 BC). Aside from being a labour of faith, the project represents the employment of solid engineering principles.
It is, according to a Po Lin Monastery spokesman, "A grand statue that combines ancient traditional art and modern technology, symbolising the blending and assimilation of Chinese culture with Buddhist philosophy, such that all beings may experience the ideals of benevolence, wisdom, sincerity and respect."
建於大嶼山木魚峯上的天壇大佛，早已吸引不少善信和遊客前去參觀，除了基於信仰之外，這項工程本身亦有可觀之處。
