Abstract
A fire engineering approach covers not only services, but all aspects of fire safety in a building. Means of escape, compartmentation, fire-fighter access as well as compliance with prescriptive codes are all covered. Fire engineers can deal with both a specific area of a project or can help develop a comprehensive fire safety strategy. Peter Bressington, Associate Director with Ove Arup and leader of Arup Fire, examines the burning issues. (1) Case #1: Kowloon Station (2) Case #2: HACTL SuperTerminal 1 (3) Developments in fire engineering (4) Fire codes and their potential improvement
