Abstract
With the development of international telecommunications and the increasing demands being made on conventional communications mediums, two trends will be seen in the future. Firstly, there are likely to be more contracts for the laying of new submarine cables and the construction of anciliary buildings and cablehandling stations. Secondly, there will be developments in the field of new and alternative cable forms. The most recent of these forms to emerge is the optical fibre cable.
In this article, Henk Dennert looks at developments in Japan where a transpacific optical fibre cable is under consideration.
