Abstract
Established in Newcastle in 1958, Suters Architects has succeeded in outgrowing the stereotypical image of the regional practice in Australia. That jack-of-all-trades reputation so often attributed to regional architects has, in the case of Suters Architects, been turned on its head, as it is precisely the firm's diverse range of expertise which has taken them beyond those boundaries. Besides its operational headquarters in Newcastle, the firm has offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Parramatta, and an affiliated office in Kuala Lumpur. Their projects are equally dispersed, stretching along the east coast of Australia and internationally in Fiji, Tahiti and Malaysia and range from public hospitals to residential developments, hotels, cultural institutions and industrial/commercial complexes. Development of skills in further specialised fields of architecture such as adaptive reuse and heritage, has given Suters Architects the opportunity to be involved in a variety of prestigious projects both individually and in association with many internationally respected architectural practices.
