Abstract
High frequency compaction techniques have been applied on the Shanghai F1 race circuit project, using a fleet of Dynapac pavers and F141C and CC 322 rollers. Main contractor Shanghai Road Construction introduced the techniques in what is believed to be a first for a Grand Prix race circuit. Architect and consulting engineer Tilke forbade the use of conventional vibratory passes on the binder course due to concerns over the risk of crushing the mainly limestone aggregates. The final asphalt wearing course was completed at the end of May 2004.
