Abstract
The 30.3 kilometres railway will be approximately 40 per cent underground, 45 per cent elevated and 15 per cent at grade. The viaduct section runs from Kam Sheung Road to Tuen Mun, with a total length of 13.4 kilometres, its construction was packaged into two geographically based contracts. The northern and northwestern parts of the New Territories are known to be the most flood-prone areas in Hong Kong and the use of viaducts would keep trains and track clear of any flooding risk without impeding existing drainage facilities.
