Abstract
One of the more interesting facets of architecture and building in the SAR is the way that private entities can work in concert with public organisations to create buildings in the public interest. The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine is an edifice dedicated to mastery of the surgical arts, built on land donated by the Government and with funds from organisations like the HK Jockey club. Yet architects CYS did not erect a mundane municipal building, preferring instead to address the problematic site with a trio of blocks in separate geometries. The result is an educational institute as impressive as any throughout the world.
