Abstract
A tower which will rank as one of Central District's handsomest structures, the Wong Tung & Partners-designed Nine Queen's Road Central addition to the Hongkong Land portfolio, is a product of both Gammon Construction Limited quality workmanship and the efforts of the Gammon-Nishimatsu Joint Venture.
Co-ordinated planning of materials scheduling and handling was essential due to the proximity of major buildings, heavy-traffic conditions and the need to work with imported materials also make it an example of Gammon's long-developed ability to work in Hong Kong's Central District.
Gammon Construction executive director Martin Hadaway and contracts manager Karl Syska talk about this standard, yet unique, project which, aside from the close-by Government offices site redevelopment, may be the last large, significant office building undertaking in Central.
由香港置地有限公司發展的皇后大道中九號，將成為中區另一座雄偉壯觀的購物及商業中心。此幢美輪美奐的建築物，不但體現了王董建築師事務有限公司的精心設計，還佐證了金門建築有限公司對建築質素和工藝的高要求，並成為金門—西松聯營公司另一項成功合作結晶。
皇后大道中九號貼近其他著名商業大廈——如渣打銀行大廈、恒昌大廈、太子大廈、公爵大廈及顯利大廈，令工程人員必須謹慎處理及策劃運輸建築材料。此外，中區交通繁忙以及不少建築材料需由外國輸入，為工程添上一些困難，但亦顯出金門建築在中區興建高級商廈的經驗和能力。
除了中區政府合署西翼重建計劃外，皇后大道中九號大概會是中區最後一座建成的大型商業大廈。金門建築有限公司執行董事夏德威和合約經理施瑞家，向建築承造雜誌披露了這座獨特建築物在施工期間遇到的挑戰。
