Abstract
It is now generally accepted that emissions of CFCs and other chlorine containing substances, including HCFCs and halons, are causing depletion of the ozone layer and that production of these substances must be phased out as soon as possible. This article draws on the research of the British Building Research Establishment and interviews with Jim Dale, Technical Services Director of Swire Properties Management Ltd, and Paul Lam of the Environment Projection Department to get an up to date picture of air-conditioning refrigerants in Hong Kong's buildings.
