Abstract
A popular Chinese adage transulates as "In heaven there is Paradise, on earth there is Suzhou". This historic city, which dates back 2500 years, lies 60 miles west of Shanghai in Jiangsu Province. Dubbed "the Venice of the East", Suzhou is renowned for the arresting beauty of its landscaped gardens and canals which weave their way across a city further enriched by a captivating architectural heritage.
