Abstract
This is a well-defined trend towards resort-style properties evident from the development activities of most of the major, hotel companies with the last three years in particular. Some of this may be attributed to the pragmatic interests of travellers - all in one vacations; as much, to their desire for illusion and romance. One of the most talked-about, and certainly most visually arresting resolutions, has been Sheraton Mirage's "Gold Coast" resort in Queensland, Australia. In keeping with the standard Sheraton have set for their resort destinations the Mirage Gold Coast is a stunning visual tour-de-force, made additionally so by the particular relevance of the "mirage" designation in this instance. Set on the narrow strip of the Gold Coast, and although being the only 5*-star international with dual water frontage (looking out upon both the Pacific Ocean and the Southport Broadwater), still being within close proximity to the surrounding well-developed area, the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast is for all intents and purposes a mirage of a south seas reverie - all lagoons and idyllic pavillions. Credit goes to leading Australian architectural and design consultancy, Media Five, who made a vision of a dream into a reality.
