Abstract
Public Housing in the New Era is the first open design competition ever held by the Hong Kong Housing Authority. Although it undoubtedly has Public Relations intent, this is not a gathering of utopian ideas which can be quietly forgotten. The two-stage competition was jointly organised by the Housing Authority and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the scale is significant, the brief is live and the winning scheme will be built, with completion scheduled for 2005. (1) First prize winner: Tri-modular planning and public housing in the new era (2) Second prize winner: High-rise interlocking community (3) Third prize winner: Surrender to nature, embrace life (4) Honourable mention: Sustainability environmental user responsive housing
