Abstract
In the course of this century the Hong Kong-based company Wharf has developed from a cargo handling and warehousing operation working on the Kowloon waterfront into a modern commercial conglomerate with interests in property, transportation, communications, and hotels. The Kowloon waterfront, however, retains its strategic and economic importance to the company as the site of Wharf's flagship development, Harbour City.
