Abstract
The Earth Galleries at the Natural History Museum provides an exciting new museum experience, taking visitors on a unique journey through stunning displays and interactive technology from the depths of the Earth's molten core to the peaks of its highest mountains.
The tansformation of the former Geology Museum in South Kensington into the Natural History Museum's Earth Galleries is one of the first projects to benefit from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The other half of the £12 million budget was generated through fund-raising and sponsorship. The first phase of the development opened in July 1996 with Neal Potter's 'Visions of Earth', Event Communications''The Power Within' and MET Studio's 'Restless Surface'. Two more exhibitions will open this year, and the final two in 1998.
