Abstract
At the start of this year, Dickson Concepts Chairman Dickson Poon approached design consultants to investigate a new type of shopping centre, to be located over 70,000 sq ft of space within the MTRC's cavernous Kowloon Station. With plans to develop an e-commerce business of his own, Mr Poon was seeking a mall far beyond the ordinary in forming his bricks and clicks business environment. A concept for distinct zones for shopping categories, all linked with an web-based interface, was developed with Detroit-based retail design consultants JGA. Lead consultant Gensler International was then charged with architectural design and implementation, as well as conceptual design for lighting, audio-visual and interactive elements. Come September, after fast-track research, design and construction, the small universe of six shopping worlds - Dickson CyberExpress - opened its doors. (1) Fashion world (2) Entertainment world (3) Electronic world (4) Sports world (5) iCosmetics world (6) Kiddy world (7) Designing within a station (8) Building with a backbone
