Abstract
During the 1930s, the mystique of Shanghai spawned dozens of Western films such as Shanghai Hotel(1939), La Condition Humaine (1933) and Shanghai screen images created for Western eyes were seldom authentic, mostly cardboard cutouts of reality.
Reviving the traditions of Hollywood's golden era, interior designer Cowperthwaite & Partners used the spirit of old Shanghai as the backdrop for the decoration of The China Club on the 13th to 15th floors of the old Bank of China Building in Central.
