Abstract
With Europe's tallest office building, the Commerzbank in Frankfurt, approaching completion and planning decisions awaited on two large schemes in Central London, interest in the development of tall buildings in Europe is considerable. Construction activity on the Pacific Rim is currently at very high levels, with 20.8 million sq m of office space coming on stream in Hong Kong over the next three years, and with 100+ storey towers planned for both Shanghai and Melbourne. In this Cost Model, cost consultants, Davis Langdon & Everest detail the results of an international survey of tall building construction, contributed to by the Hong Kong and regional offices of Davis Langdon & Seah International. Consulting Engineers Ove Arup & Partners provide a commentary on the principal issues of structural design associated with tall buildings.
