Abstract
Housing needs have reached critical levels; infrastructure is flourishing; a monumental new airport will provide expanded access to greater Hong Kong: Myriad issues speak to a need for increased awareness of our growth and our future, an awareness that embodies both acute attention and long-range contemplation. This month, Building Journal features the works of some compelling thinkers in our industry, two of whom address currently perceived challenges and two more who comment on the intricacies of shaping the times ahead. In each piece is a wake-up call to those who have the power to shape this future - architects, engineers, planners, and others who have a far-reaching impact on society. With our first full year as an SAR, and with the impending fiftieth anniversary of the People's Republic of China seeing a change toward a more capitalist economy, it is clear that our world has changed dramatically. So, now let's take a collective bold look forward.
