Globalisation and construction industry development: implications of recent developments in the construction sector in Asia

Abstract
Recent developments in the Asian construction sector demonstrate three trends: (1) larger private se(c) tor participation in infrastructure projects, (2) increasing vertical integration in the packaging of construction projects, and (3) increased foreign participation in domestic construction. In this article, a consortium led by Professor John Raftery of the Economics and Finance Group, Department of Building and Real Estate, Hong Kong Polytechnic University takes an in-depth look at these trends and the market forces behind them. The authors are Raftery, Bernie Pasadilla, YH Chiang, Eddie CM Hui and Bo Sin Tang.
