Abstract
The establishment of Housing Authority can be traced back to 1972, when the Governor Sir Murray MacLehose announced a ten-year housing programme to provide self-contained housing for 1.5 million people. In the same year the Housing Authority was established to support and advance the programme. In 1973, the three main government streams involved in public housing - Resettlement, Low Cost Housing and old Housing Authority were amalgamated to form the new Hong Kong Housing Authority.
