Why is it that a small wet island nation like Britain has become some kind of design mecca for everything from industrial products to cultural buildings? Is there something in the warm ale? Or does all that rain make for extra hours at the drafting table, working through design snags while Mediterranean counterparts are tempted outside to sunny piazzas for idleness and wasteful flirtation?
