Abstract
The results of the Hong Kong Designers Association's biennial design competition were announced on 12 November at a glittering Awards Presentation Dinner that attracted over 680 guests. The professional body, whose patron is Betty Tung, is multi-disciplined in its representation of design, covering graphics, products, advertising, interiors, websites, illustration, photography, etc. With over 2,600 entries from Hong Kong, including 764 submissions from other parts of Asia, the judging process proved to be a close call. Amongst the jury there were familiar names such as designer Alessandro Mendini from Italy and architect Anthony Ng from Hong Kong. Gold, silver and bronze awards plus certificates of excellence were presented in each category. Amongst the 12 Hong Kong Gold Award recipients were graphic designer Henry Steiner for the Pacific Century CyberWorks 1999 Annual Report; Lume a CD support system by product design company Sunhing Millennium; the Bathing Ape Book by photography / graphics consultancy Shya-la-la Workshop; and the Leong Tsang residential interior by architecture firm K plus K (HK) International.
