Abstract
In a development sense, 'sustainability' is about maintaining and enhancing the quality of life while respecting the carrying capacity of the biosphere, the supporting eco-system and resource base. At a more detailed and specific level, spatial planning and urban design need to be set within the urban and city planning context of natural resource conservation and local environmental quality.
