Abstract
It is said that one can find virtually anything in Las Vegas, and it may well be true. But one is unaccustomed to include precious art among the expected offerings, at least until now. Guggemheim, the museum 'brand' fast becoming multinational, has managed to rouse fanfare and controversy in a town jaded by unequalled, 'seen-it-all-before' nonchalance. In a place where people lose millions of dollars on a few throws of the dice, where Mike Tyson regularly gets into flights before his fight, and where daylight is rivalled by nightlights, high art has finally landed with a splash. And when Guggenheim decided to open shop in the city of flash, it's little surprised it chose an architect synonymous with the razor-sharp frontline of cutting edge: Rem Koolhaas.
